1. Do you download music not from the popular genres of Top 40, pop, rock, rap, dance, R&B, or country?
I guess most of my music - downloaded or not - is from non-popular genres, and I'm pretty happy about that, thankyouverymuch XD

2. Are there any musicians for whom you've downloaded a significant amount of their material yet own few or none of their albums?
Certainly.

3. Have you ever enjoyed a downloaded album so much that you went and bought the physical album?
Sure. One of my favourite examples is an album called "Hellfire Club" by some German band called Edguy.

4. How many different ways of playing music do you own (such as radio, stereo system, computer, Walkman/Discman, mp3 player, mp3-ready phone, etc.)?
Computer, laptop, two mp3 players, phone. I don't own a stereo any more ;)

5. Do you still have and/or play a favorite vinyl album, cassette tape, or 8-track tape?
Nope.

Aaand some old ones! )

Whew. I think that was enough FF to last me a lifetime. Or, maybe, not ^_~
On Saturday night, we started watching "Heroes". [livejournal.com profile] mirmingi recommended it and since just about everyone else seems to be into it, I decided we should join the frenzy.
So we watched
And watched.
And watched.
And... you get the picture ^^;;;
Yesterday, we started after lunch and only paused for dinner. Our projector had a long workday XD
We're up to episode thriteen (which will be next).
And if that's not an indication of whether we like it or not, lemme say this:
Holy CRAP.
I don't think I've ever watched something this intense and gripping. The storyline is totally unpredictable - unless you're [livejournal.com profile] yamasagi, but he is hopeless anyway. I wouldn't have thought that something as generic as "story about people with super powers" could be translated into something this memorable. Characters? Brilliant. Plot? Exciting as hell and makes you curse the human need for sleep ;)
So... yes, we love it. Hard.
Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] mirmingi for talking about it and making me wanna try it out. I won't forget ^_^

I just drained my writing powers a great deal by creating that long and angry rant on my German blog (apporopiately titled "Eurpoes' worst losers"), so just have a few notes:

- Amazing show, the intro (feat. Lordi, wolves, monsters and TONS of fire) was the coolest thing ever. I love Finland. Kiitos for that ^_~

- The level of music quality was rather high and there were surprisingly little acts relying on ass, boobs and naked skin O_o

- Serbia was awesome and fully deserved their victory. I voted for them, Twice. Such a fantatic voice and OMFG what a passionate song.

- I adored the little movies that were shown in between the performances. I think this is the first time some of them made me laugh. Lovely job <3

- Ukraine was funny even though they need to practise how to count in German XD

- Sorry, my precious friends from the UK, but there's bad songs and there's awful songs. Your entry was off the scale ;_;

- We don't need a change of rules. Serbia didn't win cuz the other Eastern Europen countries voted for them. They won cuz everyone voted for them. If you take the non-Western countries out of the equation, rank 1 and 2 stay the same.

- I despise this country and its media for bashing the contest, its rules and the winner like this. Just because we did badly. Shame on you.

I recently discovered this shop on eBay. They print bags with costum logos.
Well, I wanted a bigger one anyway so I gave them two image fiels and asked whether they could put that particular logo on a bag for me.
The woman running the shop said sure thing, so I ordered.
When the finished item came in the mail, I was kinda impressed.
Even I didn't expect the thing to turn out this good...

Woah Oo )

Also, happy tenth anniversary to everyone's favourite satirical, scandal-inducing cartoon - South Park!!
MTV Germany (They've had the rights to the series for a couple of years now) ran a countdown of the ten best episodes, as voted by users on their website.
"Woodland Critter Christmas" came fifth. I'd never seen it before but I think I now have a favourite episode. Stan refusing to do what the narrator says and the two arguing half the episode? Awesome, especially considering the narrator was played by that (un)fortunate audio crush of mine. I'm sure they had one helluva time dubbing that thing XD

On the other ahnd, I still don't have the slightest idea what to think about "Good Times with Weapons". Sure, the "Americans don't care about violence as long as there'S sex and nudity to ban" message of the episode was just brilliant. But the anime references? It just yelled "Japanese animation = Mindless violence" at me. Maybe I'm totally mistaken here, but I dunno really. Sometimes, I just get pissed when stuff I love gets parodied and I can't quite see the intention. I guess it's one of my more severe character flaws.
1. What is your all time favorite book?
"The Picture of Dorian Gray" by Oscar Wilde.

2. What is your all time favorite movie?
V for Vendetta.

3. What are you reading right now?
Just ordered three of Stephen Fry's books. Unfortunately, the one I wanted to read first wasn't on stock. So I'll either wait for it or have a go at "The Hippopotamus".

4. What is your favorite show on tv?
That's a tie between The Daily Show, The Colbert Report and Qi. Isn't it weird how none of them is actually aired on German TV? Haha XD

5. What is the last movie you saw in the theater?
Mr. Bean's Holiday. Soooo funny and cute <3

While I'm on the topic, have a movie REC: Lady in the Water. Watch it, it's utterly stunning.

Eddie Murphy lost his voice. His German voice, to be precise. Yes, that's right. Randolf Kronberg, who voiced Eddie since like, forever, died on March 2.
Holy hell, we got ourselves another big hole in the dubbing scene.
The last huge one was when Elisabeth Volkmann (a.k.a. Marge Simpson) passed away last year. They found someone new but most Simpsons fans loathe her because she's a crappy choice indeed >:|

Also, I wanna see This Film Is Not Yet Rated (Note that each of the six words is a different link concerning the movie! Ha, I rule >:D). Badly.

If you want to see Stephen Colbert switching in and out of character, download this. Wow. On the one hand, he scares me a bit. On the other, he seems like such a sweet, friendly guy *swoons*

What? There's a new Precure anime? Again? It's called "Yes! Precure 5" (ANN AnimeNfo) Crap, I haven't even completed the first one yet.! Anime producers, I hate you. Nah, not really. Guess I'm just toooo slooooow XD

And then... Is it just me or is Robbie Williams about to turn into the third Pet Shop Boy?
Don't get me wrong, I think them working together is pretty damn cool. "She's Madonna" is a good song even though the bridge sounds an awful lot like that in "Being boring". But I suggest everyone who likes some nice elctronic tunes check out "We're the Pet Shop Boys" (it's on Robbie's new album "Rudebox"). That one simply rules :D

Finally, a nice take on the infamous "Responsible Drinking" episode of Even Stevphen. As much as I adore Jon/Stephen, Stephen/Steve does indeed need more love. And I'm not even mentioning Jon/John here ^_~
Minimum requirements: Having read "Take me away"
Recommended requirements: Being [livejournal.com profile] silicondreams ^_~

Random moment from a December 2006 show of c't TV - They're talking cheap notebooks.
Mathias: "What CPU is in there?"
Georg: "It has an AMD Sempron 3500+"
Mathias (who has obviously no idea what that is): "Ah, that one..."

Hehe, dork ^_^

And just a moment ago, this happened (show of Dec 9, 2006):
Georg *waves to camera* (I swear, he never, NEVER does that!!)
Jessy *drops off chair ded*
... geez. I am so weak.

Yay, PC building tomorrow (hopefully) :D

And... ZOMG, I just found out that at least some of the newer c't TV shows are available as .flv (and are therefore downloadable) :D You just have to look on another site. Why they have two of them, I have no idea. But at least I can save some of the awesomeness to my HDD now which for some reason didn't work with the Real Media streams on the old page.
Still...
*happy place*
... if only the server wasn't that effing slow O_O;;;
Today, during lunch, mum tried to quote something from german bash.
And right when she was supposed to get to the punch line - which was only one word - ...
... she couldn't remember it XD
Bro and me were laughing our asses off.
Well, she finally remembered the word and the thing was still funny O_O;;;
Ah, mum. Bless her <3

BTW, Comedy Central Germany decided to show TDS after all.
... as a stream on their website.
Wow, that reeeeally improves things for me.
Not.
God, I hate them *keeps ignoring the channel*
Well, apart from Nightwash. First show on the new network - today at 10:15 PM. Cuz I love me some KJ :)~~~

My article of the week is certainly this one.
Read it, it's frickin' hilarious. Amazing parody on both computer illiteracy and over-protective/dictatorian parenting.
But what's at least as funny is the fact that 98% of the people commenting didn't get that this acticle is a spoof.
To quote one of the intelligent ones, "anyone who knows the first things about computing will be in hysterics".
Amen.

Tomorrow's the big day. Well, not really. But still, the German Comedy Central will go on air tomorrow at... what? 6 AM? Are you kidding me? What an ungodly hour to start a new TV channel O_o
So far, the only thing wort watching seems to be Nightwash. Yes, KJ now works for VIACOM. A short bio is already up on the CC site.

Sadly, his new show "Thank God You're Here" is not doing that well, rating-wise. Maybe it's because he keeps wearing those fair suits. He was an athlete and has somewhat thin legs. Geez, keep wearing black or blue, anything else just looks stupid on you. And that's a shame because he's so pretty ;_;
In actuality, their ratings are that bad because he cannot possible win against NCIS. Even if it's just re-runs. Ow.

The rest of the program seems to be made up of re-runs. Not to forget those terrible call-in shows. Uh.... yay? Dammit, someone ban them already! Compared to them, those porn hot-line spots were almost amusing T_T

I really need to find a reliable site to look up ratings. Digging them up somewhere on the 'net is bloody annoying :|

#eurobeat got a bot! Seems they're sharing #LosslessONE's lolibotnot. Which is damn cool =)

ETA: Woah. I just found out that KJ is the spokesman for the new BMW X5! How cool is that?
Made two new icons for our guys' first shows of the new year.
The "Awwww" one (check it out on my icons page) was necessary cuz Jon keeps being cute on purpose, thereby reducing me to a brainless, squealing lump of fangirl-ism. Or something like that. And I feel like it's getting worse. Completely ebil, I tell ya >:D
And Stephen announcing the new year whilst being all grumpy in the beginning of his Report? Priceless. So there you go, this is my "Meh" icon XD
Guess what? I'm currently getting more Reports from December. Oh noes. Sometimes, I disgust myself. Well, not really. Maybe just a bit O_o
But y'know, even if I wasn't such a hopeless victim of fandom, I still wouldn't have a life. I'm just happier and better informed that way ^^
Actually, I'm surprised that I still get most of the stuff that's going on on both shows. Before I got into them, I figured it must be difficult for someone who isn't even from the country. Turns out it's not. They just explain and display the stuff so well, it's as if you were watching a very funny and very clever version of the news :D
jessybxx: (Jon Stewart (Awwww) - Jan 8)
( Jan. 9th, 2007 08:12 pm)
Eek.
Maybe I should add that to my list of hobbies? Folding...

I never downloaded an episode of The Colbert Report. Because I knew I'd love it and grabbing both shows each day would've been a bit much.
However, I was certain that one day, I'd do it anyway.
Well, that day was today.
I had nothing else to get so I had a go at the first Report of the new year.
And now, I don't think I'll be able to live without the swooping eagle again. Whoops X_x
Before that, Stephen (the character) somehow scared me. But damn, he's good. His show is so bloody different to TDS.
Still, they're both amazing in their own way.
Hooked? Me? You bet XD
Crap, that's two hours of DLing per day. But y'know what? I don't think I'll ever regret this.

I wonder how long I'll be able to pretend that [livejournal.com profile] thekelaal had nothing to do with this? ^_^;;;
I dunno whether I mentioned it before (and to be brutally honest, I'm too lazy to check XD), but soon, there will be a German version of Comedy Central.
Sounds good? Yeah, in the beginning, it did, since the US CC runs a couple of fine shows, like South Park, the Daily Show and the Colbert Report. Of course, me and various other German bloggers hoped that the German CC might air the latter two as well.
But the closer we get to the channel's launch date, the less likely it gets.
The schedule for the first week is out and they're mainly showing re-runs and recycled material. Blergh.
Well, it would have been nice to watch the "real" TDS and not those Global Editions on my TV but right now, it looks like it's not gonna happen.
Which means... back to BT.
And... god... I can't wait for TDS to start again! Tomorrow, folks =)

BTW, I grabbed "America - the audiobook". Didn't manage to listen to the whole thing yet, but so far, it's pretty funny ^^

And while I'm at it...
Here, have a TDS/Jon Stewart fic REC:
Hilf Mir! by[livejournal.com profile] cobrasnaps. Very cool, very unusual and very powerfully written :)

*checks tonight's TV schedule*
Ewgh. Bloody fuckin' nothin'.
Whatever. I have enough stuff lying around to get me through weeks without 'net - and, indeed, TV - access so no worries there ;)

I think even mentioning this - without telling what exactly it's about - is already a spoiler.
So I don't recommend clicking the cut.
Guess I just need to whine.

T________________T )

On a positive note, [livejournal.com profile] yamasagi gave me his black second-generation Furby (whom I named E-Bay cuz I'm stoopid ^^) because he was acting strange.
He kept stopping in the middle of whathever he was doing and reverted to "listening mode" (And no, he's NOT George Bush *lol*).
My initial suspicion were nearly depleted batteries so I took them out and gave E-Bay the ones I had removed from Nah-Bah (my white Furby). And lo, he was perfectly fine, sang and danced like nothing had ever happened =)
Call me Furby Nurse ^_~

Mum also introduced me to a fun cooking show on German TV today O_O

( Dec. 14th, 2006 01:28 am)
Somehow, people are geting a little too rigid with cutting the commercials out of The Daily Show before releasing it to BT.
They don't even leave Jon's "We'll be right back" in there. Come on, now you're REALLY overdoing it =_=
But yesterday's show was once again GREAT. And it looks like Jon's getting better (he announced he has a cold two days ago, poor sweetie) :D

BTW, important question for you Americans: Are there more commercial breaks over there than there are here? I noticed that TDS gets interrupted every ten minutes or so. How long is such a commercial break?
(We get about six or seven minutes, and there's at least 20 minutes between them, sometimes more)
I think I heard Japan gets a lot of them, too...
Sometimes I feel like we Germans didn't really take over the concept of stand-up comedy very well.
As far as I understand it, one of the main qualities of a stand-up comedian should be spontaniety - as in "the ability to react upon the audience, change things and invent new stuff on the fly".
Unfortunately, most German comedians are simply unable to do that. This becomes especially clear when, as a guest in some late night/talk show, the only thing they do is repeat the same lines from their programs over and over again.
Another good test are improv shows which have become a real trend over here during the last few years (Actually, in the German rendition of Thank God You're Here, the guy who keeps surprising everyone with his funny acting is the only recurring guy Oli P. - and he's NOT a comedian AT ALL! I think this says something).
Of course, there are some awesome and notable exceptions, like Knacki Deuser, who is just amazing at audience interaction and baffled me each time I saw him performing on stage (2004 and 2005).
But the great mass of German stand-up people is just made up of trained monkeys who just lack that geniune funny-ness that a lot of UK/US guys seem to have.
It's a bit sad, really.

I don't like this article.
If the writer of that text knew how many cool and intelligent Germans actually WATCH the original and that they Do indeed GET IT... they still wouldn't care.
Meh.
However, my last piece of information on that matter is that TDS on German Comedy Central was canceled in favour of... a call-in show. Ow. Ow ow ow! Oh my god, if that isn't depressing, I dunno what is T_T

Today, I showed mum the beginning of an episode of Qi. What? She asked for it! And then, she was upset about not getting anything. Er... the hell was she expecting??
She laughed about the buzzers, though ;)
Ah crap, only eight episodes left ;_;

BTW, I noticed that one episode of The Daily Show is only about 175 MB in size. That amount of data takes me about an hour to download. Which means that I'll be able to follow the show with a delay of one day only. Hail to BT :D

I really wanted to watch the joint Daily Show/Colbert Report episode from November 7, the thing they called Midterm Midtacular (*lol*).
That file was a bit bigger but I eventually got it. The show was really interesting and cool.
And that conversation in the middle... Well, I'll put it like this: If Jon/Stephen slash (Which idiot started calling that Stewbert, anyway? *is appalled*) hadn't existed before November 7, that skit certainly would've created it ALL ^_~

Heh.
Jon's such a beast. But he's so bloody charming as well. And he's got such a goofy, silly laugh. That man is just gorgeous *dreamy eyes*
On the other hand, Stephen Colbert is ten times more beast than Jon could ever be. So that one RPS fic where Stephen was abusing Jon really made quite a lot of sense, actually O_o

First, some similarities between Boffle and MPFC I discovered (mainly from watching only the first episode and a handful of random clips):

- The mix of quite intellectual and really clever stuff with absolute, mind-rippling nonsense (Their vox pops, where they only show the weird answers and you have NO IDEA what they're on about are just pricelss!)
- Their use of links ("We need someone to go through that door" - which leads to the next sketch)
- The sudden going out of character ("I can end this sketch in forty-five seconds")
- And, not to be taken that seriously, the fact that Stephen Fry is almost as good at shouting (complete with cracking of voice) as John Cleese *lol*

--------------------------------

Now, some YouTube links:

Barman
That one nearly killed me. Seriously. Their timing is brilliant.

Censored
From episode one. "And then the sketch ends with us going to bed together" - "..... violently." *snort* Though I know a couple of fics that beat them to the punchline on this one, hehe ;)

(No title)
I wonder why people keep remarking upon the Python similarities. I doubt they were EVER trying to hide it ;)

Major Donaldson
Speaking of obvious. Hugh's German accent is bad as always, but OMFG teh slash. It's almost as if Stephen were out of character in this one from a certain point on. Hey, you can dream, can you? XD

My Dear Boy
This one is almost too much. Gay men playing gay men (especially that... type O_o) always scares me a bit. But it's still hilarious.
