Mum just left to get our neighbour back to the hospital.
The man was about to kill himself by alcohol and some pills when his wife called mum for help. They even called an ambulance but they couldn't do anything. I don't know about other countries, but in Germany there is this law that you can't force somebody to go to a hospital. "If he doesn't want to come, we can't make him." That's what the ambulance people said. At this moment, they were upstairs in the man's house. His wife was crying in a corner, the guy himself was standing in front of the ambulance people and mum was there as well. Everybody was helpless except for my mother. She started talking to the man and said things like "Don't think about what other people might say. We know that you have problems, but you have to get help. You're fifty now, so we're the same age. Do you want your life to end here? You have to think about your health and your children". This went on for about a quarter of an hour, and the ambulance guys kept showing her the "thumbs up", meaning she should go on. Finally, he gave in and the ambulance brought him to the hospital.
This happened around noon and I regret that I wasn't at home. I could've learned a lot more here than at that strange university place. Mum is so cool. I can almost imagine her standing in front of that man talking to him *shivers* Wow...
Anyway, about an hour ago, he called mum and wanted to apologize. Mum went back to his house and came back some time later. She said "I have to get him back, he escaped from the hospital."
Off she went and that is the whole story.
Well, actually, it isn't.
This incident was just the last one in a long line. Our neighbours just moved here a couple of months ago. He has been an alcoholic and she had been married to a man who had beaten her up constantly. For twenty years. Anyway, they have been married for six months or something, but she already went to a lawyer cuz she wants a divorce. Her husband has two kids from another mariage. His ex wife lives with a woman now and is trying to get rid of the two boys by forcing him to take them. And he is a very weak person and simply does everything his ex says. But his wife doesn't want the kids because they're very problematic and she is not that young anymore as well. So, there has been lots of arguing and she even left for a couple of days. Well, now it seems to be over and he is trying to force her to stay by drinking and taking pills and stuff. At least that's how things look from my PoV.
