[livejournal.com profile] yamasagi and I just repaired my Skype connection :D
... well, partly. Upload's still pretty fucked but the overall experience improved a lot.
Now. A lot of modern routers have a function called Quality of Service (QoS).
It's used to prioritize certain ports and/or applications that have a vital need for bandwith.
For example, Skype is one of those (lack of bandwith = bad or impossible to do calls), while Bittorrent isn't since it just grabs whatever there is and doesn't give a shit about the rest.
Today, Yama bought that (a cute Skype phone that I'm supposed to find a name for XD). But since talking - and even chatting - via Skype has been a pain in the ass lately, we had a look at our router's QoS settings.
... which, to make a long story short, were rather fucked up.
Well, I changed some things, restarted the little blue guy and talking went from unbearable to almost okay, but still with a bloody unstable outgoing connection.
I guess we'll tackle - or try to tackle - the upload tomorrow.

And finally, a little picture for anyone who's wondering just how frickin' crappy my 'net connection really is!

Note the outgoing packet loss. 173.8%! That means that I'm sending out more rubbish than useful data O_O

That was my little geek corner for today, thanks for not listening *lol*
