So...
I watched the first couple of songs together with mum. I generally love our German commentator (Peter Urban) a lot, but he didn't translate half of what the Greek hosts said, so I did the rest.
Somehow, I feel like the overall level of quality is going further down each year, but the number of girls who are not singing that much but mainly wiggling their tits and asses keeps rising. Not so good. Luckily, there still were a few performances that I really liked. Norway for example. Beautiful folk-ish song. And Romania, cuz the singer was absolutely amazing. And hey, our band was not as bad as to deserve rank #15. Jane is a good songwriter, and compared to many others that night didn't hit any wrong notes.
And then, Lordi entered the stage... only to burn it down shortly after ^_~
"Hard Rock Hallelujah" is a great song, there's no doubt about it. And their performance only added to the general awesomeness. I nearly cried when they set off the pyros.
mustaenkeli, now I know what you were talking about. Holy crap, that was Just. So. Cool.
I sent two SMS voting for Lordi. Mum tried to call (Hello? Just cuz it's 8 cents cheaper? Greedy, anyone?) for Ireland but of course didn't get through. Too bad for her, hehe ;?
Hun called me just as the ten minutes of voting time were over and all the countries were calculating their scores. He siad he'd missed Lordi's performance (D'oh -_-) but I promised to show him the taped version and the music video next week. Funnily enough, he seemed to be pretty optimistic, a lot more than I was at that point.
Bro came home when they had just started collecting the points from all of the thirty-eight countries. He had watched Lordi's appearance at his friend's place. At this point, Lordi was already in the lead so I entered his room and said "Lordi... it looks like... they're winning". Bro looked at me, struck dumb.
For the next half hour or so I kept changing rooms, talking to bro most of the time and only peeking at my TV occasionally. I was just too nervous to watch the thing all the time. When about half of the countries were done and Lordi were still in the lead, hun called again and I had to admit he was right.
When there was only one third of the countries left, bro joined me to watch Lordi's triumph. He also calculated at what point Russia wouldn't be able to chatch up anymore. And then it was done. Finland had won and we were just going wild.
After the show, there was an one-hour show called "Grand Prix Party" on German TV. It features dome so-called celebrities, musicians and comedians doing some sort of re-cap. And OH MY GOD were they ever so bitter. The host Thomas Hermanns (In case anyone actually bothered to sit through the point-collecting thing: Guy on horse.) started the show by saing "The Orks have won the Grand Prix". Idiot >:O Well, most of them merely let out their frustration, but one of the guests actually admitted that Lord's song is a good one. Woohoo.
For those who didn't (or couldn't) watch the thing or want to watch it again, some YouTube links:
First performance (OMG pyros!): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9LgJYCK-6hE
Second one (includes Lordi getting their awards): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1EFFMCuALyU
Press conference: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ezdIDHz0Hzg
WTF? The Brits cut the second performance of "Hard Rock Hallelujah"? The Germans didn't, though. Scary. But I like the UK commentator's comment: "Finland. Oh, good. We're back in the cold again." Actually, I'd love it if the English show appeared on P2P some time. It'd be the greatest thing ever to compare that to the German one.
What struck me about the short clip from the press conference is the fact that Mr. Lordi himself is a lot more tolerant towards other musical styles than those are towards him. Eh XD And he seems to agree with me on this not being a victory for Finland only, but for Rock and Metal and open-mindedness.
Wow. Now people are starting to chuck out discriminating comments about Finland at some weblogs. A few of 'em even want the whole Song Contest thing to be discontinued. Why? Just cuz we're not winning anymore? Doitsu, chou saitei yo. This country is the worst =_=
So... who're we gonna send to Helsinki next year? Blind Guardian? Edguy? Gamma Ray?
Imagine girls all over Europe going "Well, I didn't really like their song but the singer and the guitar player looked so slashy together... Germany's got my vote!"
That'd be... nice ^_____^
Congratulations to Lordi, congratulations to Finland, congratulations to all Rock and Metal fans in Europe - We won the Grand Prix!!!

Those pyros did cost a lot of money and many people said that it's not gonna be worth it cuz we won't even get to the final with such a horrible song but it surely was worth it! Fantastic. :D
You should've heard how much the Finnish commentators screamed on Thursday when it was announced that Lordi will go to the final(BTW, Lordi also won the semifinal, 292 points in there too) and how much they screamed when Denmark gave the 12 points to us(first time ever when any country gave Finland 12 points) and then the other countries too. :D

Of course it was worth it! The German commentator was like "Wow, they're burning the stage". I think even he liked it =)
I head about Lordi winning the semi finals. So the victory was even bigger than we'd thought!

Hee hee, I'm sure they nearly lost it there ^_^
It's awesome that there were only three countries that didn't give you any points. 3 out of 38, that's a great score indeed. And the fact that countries like UK and Greece gave 12 points as well... we were really surprised about that X_X
