On Monday, the stuff arrived. And by stuff I mean my comp parts and also the components for bro's barebone (pic later).
Well, he alread had his machine up and running and so I started working as well. Apart from cutting my finger on the mainboard bracket and straining my back like hell, I finally had the thing assembled. Unfortunately, this was only the beginning of a long and nerve-wracking odyssey.

I had the computer lying on my bed for this is the only place where I have enough space to work. I left it there just in case something was wrong and I had to change some parts inside. Well, the big moment came, I started the thing and... felt like standing next to a plane. In other words: Soemthing was terribly loud, in fact it was far too loud to be alright. I presumed it was the CPU fan for it was the biggest one and the only one that was new. When I got bro to check, he confirmed that the thing was damaged and not running correctly.
This was especially annoying cuz mum and bro had just been to the comp store that morning to get some cables we were missing *sighs in retrospect*
But mum told me that she needed to run a couple of errands the next day so on Wednesday morning, we got there and I bought the most expensive fan they had (a Thermaltake one, bro called it "a fan for gamers"). We also had the best espresso ever at one of their places. Yum <3
Back home, bro had to replace the CPU fan. Now I dunno if you've ever seen how installing a big 80 mm fan on a mondern CPU works. Even if you haven't, let me tell you that it's the most difficult and frustrating thing you get in PC building (apart from getting the tiny plugs for power and reset switches onto the even tinier connectors >:O). We're talking dangerous levers and applying thermal compound here! Well, finally, that was done as well and I re-assembled the machine (Had to remove everything cuz the mainboard has to be taken out of the case to replace the CPU fan).
When I turned the thing on... the same sound was there AGAIN. Luckily, bro was there and he finally realized what was the cause of it. It wasn't the CPU fan after all (even though the first one had still been damaged cuz it was running far too slowly) but the fan inside my cheap power supply. Needless to say, I broke down crying (actually, I'd rather call it a mixture of yelling and crying, but anyway). Why the fuck am I the only one to have such bad luck with things ALL THE TIME?
Well, we then decided to go back to the store a third time, but we also had anoth espresso and mum bought a set of red whine glasses to match the white wine ones she had purchased earlier. One of these turned out to have a crack (Haha! So I'm not the only one having bad luck here!) but that's beside the point.
When we were back home (AGAIN) and I had replaced the power supply, we turned the computer on with just the CPU and the CPU fan connected. Everything worked and was silent as hell.
After reconnecting all the drives we again turned on the power and... nothing happened O___o
To cut a long story short, we finnaly had to use a "power off -> connect one drive -> power on -> connect anothter drive -> power on..." scheme and in the end, we had the system up and working, including all of the fans. So either my new power supply is a stupid psycho or there's something wrong with one of the drives. I suspect it's the latter and to be precise, the floppy drive. Guess I'll just have to remove it next time I open the case. I don't really need it anyway.
So after three days of terror, my comp was running smoothly. More than smoothly, actually. Crap, that guy is so bloody silent, each time I enter my room, I need to think twice whether it's really on ^_^;;;
BTW, I finally cracked and gave the comp a sort of middle name. It's also its network name and the one I call him by. Max. As in Max Headroom. So now you know why this post is called "The Max story" XD
The CPU is blazingly fast. I guess it's a bit bored by all the simple stuff I make her do XD I mean, I have tons of stuff running in the background and the thing is just occupied by 2 to 7 percent. Scary X_X
And needless to say I love love LOVE my new TFT. No more adjusting of the pictue cuz it's in an odd position. No, this one does that automatically =)
Right now, I'm running a stupid German copy of Win XP, but I hope that's only temporary.

Future plans:
- Temporarily attach my old HDD and get all of my old data (email, music, GR stuff, well, everything) transferred to Max.
- Install this*
- Get a decent English-language WinXP
- Get and install one or two additional OS. I'M thinking about Suse Linux and a beta of Windows Vista.

* D Bracket: Adds another two USB ports to the front of my PC (in addition to the four ports in the rear). It also has four diagnostic LEDs to show errors during bootup. Sweet <3

I probably would have named it Dr Stein considering you built it from scratch. Then again, you aren't that big of a Helloween fan ;)

No, unless it's Jericho era ;)
But the name is fun ^^

Maaan. It has been years since I built a 'puter but this post sure gave me some horrific happy memories! Happy to know it all works, though.

Yeah, one more thing dying/not working and I might've taken the bloody machine and thrown it... Ah well, it's over now, so I'm a happy bunny.

Oh, and BTW... *does nasty things to your icon* XD
