"Happy material" is a legendary anime song.
It will be remembered, not so much because it's especially good, but because it was released in seven versions, on seven different singles. Don't believe me? Check this out.
Well, now, there's a new Negima theme song, and it's called "1000& sparking".
This time, they've made nine different CDs, but they're all sold in one box, together with a tenth CD which contains the OP and ED songs to both OVAs.
I really liked "Happy material" back then, and this time, I was looking forward to the theme song box even more because each single has a version of "100& sparkign" that uses a certain musical style. There's an orchestral mix, a reggae mix, a techno mix, a disco mix, a piano mix, a latin mix, an Eurobeat mix, a big band mix and a version of the normal track sung by the whole cast (32 people!).
Too bad that, after listening to each version, my only conclusion is that they all suck.
I mean, holy hell, most of the style conversions sound so half-hearted, it's a pain to even pay attention to them. The Eurobeat one is totally cheap and stupid, the piano version is a waste because they didn't think of slowing down the vocals to fit the style (the song tiself is fairly fast) and the Latin one was especailly sad because usually, the Japanese are surprisingly good at pulling off the Latin flavour. As for the other ones, I refuse to even talk about them.
And the all-cast version is fifteen effing minutes long. Heck, the song is okay but certainly not good enough to be dragged out to last for a quarter of an hour >:O
Bleh. I feel ripped off now. Without actually paying anything *lol*
ETA: Why the heck is there no 1:30 version of "Hare hare yukai" (ED from SUZUMIYA Haruhi no Yuutsu)? I want it as my cellphonme ringtone! Well, I guess I gotta use the full one ~_~
aru hareta hi no koto
mahou ijou no yukai ga
kagirinaku furisosogu fukanou janai wa
ashita mata au toki warai nagara HUMMING
ureshisa wo atsumeyou
kantan nanda yo konna no
oikakete ne tsukamaete mite
ooki na yume yume suki deshou?
