I'm currently in the middle of that.
Well, I doubt anyone noticed but I actually deleted my current layout to sorta force myself to get a new one done. And it seems like it's working, ehe XD
The one I'm working on right now has the version number 6.3 (Yes, I discarded THREE layouts before I started on this one).
Somehow, I'm managing to get things working I never would've believed possible.
The picture I selected looks great and I somehow managed to incorporate it into the layout.
It's also got very little different colours, and I like that. I mean, what's worse than those eye cancer inducing pages where every line of thext gets a new flashy colour? I really prefer concentrating on two or three colours only and that also makes the decision about the menu colours easier. No to mention aesthetics and stuff like that. So this one will be simple, yet stylish. But you'll see what I mean once I get it done ;)
The repeating background for the text box using tables and CSS works great (Does anyone remember my Tobi cowboy LJ layout? The new one is roughly - very roughly -based on that). Okay, I managed to break the thing once but that was not a problem since I make backups of every step in my work.
I even managed to put the menu ON TOP of my main header pic. Yay for the "z-index" command. I think this is one of my first layouts where it really comes in handy *nod nod*
Oh, and I made a matching "under construction" pic cuz I won't be able to finish all of the sections before I put the thing online.
My next task will be the sub-navigation. And I already have a good idea for that one, too.
Finally, on a semi-related note:
One of the most helpful Firefox extensions I ever discovered is certainly
IE Tab.
It's basically an embedded IE engine that enables you to switch between the Gecko (Firefox) and Chrome (IE) engines at the click of a button and the site reloads automatically. That way, you can always make sure that the layout you're working on will look decent in both browsers. Lovely and a must get for every web designer even if you're such a hopeless amateur as I am ^_~
And BTW, the new layout will be compatible with Firefox and IE (tho like every good geek, I recommend Firefox XD). The resolutions required start at 800x600 but I actually recommend 1280x1024 because the main header is pretty large. Wow, this is gonna be a luxury web page ^_^
