Someone on the Edguy forum suggested that there's something wrong with Kai's voice. He concluded that from listening to "Majestic" a couple of times.
Now, when I hear something like that about a person about whom I know that he/she smokes, the first thing that comes to my mind is "Oh now, now those bloody pieces of tobacco ruined his/her voice". But then I just might be a paranoid non-smoker when it comes to that *lol* Still, that comment actually made me listen to the album once more with that particular thing in mind.
Well, there sure IS very little of the "clean" Power Metal type of singing on "Majestic". But to me, that's only a matter of style. "Majestic" is the heaviest album Gamma Ray ever did, most of the lyrics are pretty evil, and the way Kai performs the songs really fits to that. Besides, I think that rough way of sining suits him terribly well (needless to say that it's just BLOODY HOT ^_~). And then, if you listen to "Revelation", there's still some other stuff in there that COULD be considered as being rather "clean".
To cut a long story short, I don't believe he's singing that way cuz he can't do it "the other way" any more.
Of course, I've never been to any concert of theirs, so I dunno how Kai sounds live these days. His voice sure was awesome awesome on the "Skeletons..." live album and the few videos I've got from that. But I have no idea about whether that has changed in any way or not. I heard people say that Kai has been in "olympic form" on most of the recent gigs, but I have no idea if they were actually talking about his voice O_O So, that'd be one thing I'd really love to have confirmed sooner or later...
