Got a new private teaching job.
What? You're asking whether that was one of the reasons why I was a bit pissed off yesterday?
Not really.
Okay, I didn't know what to expect before I got there today.
A friend of mum's came to me a few weeks ago and asked whether I could help his granddaughter improve her English. But from the stuff he told me, it sounded like my help was barely needed because she just has a small vocabulary problem.
Well, when I set off to their village today, I didn't even know how old or in what grade the girl is. BTW, her parents own a pub/party service kind of thing and we've been their customers before and my class - while I was still at school - also had a pre-graduation party there.
When I came home about half an hour ago, I must've been grinning like a bloody idiot.
Why?
Because...
I have the cutest private student evah!!! *squee*
Her name's Charlene (<3) and she just started sixth grade. This means she's been learning English for only one year and so I still have plenty of time to help her.
And yes, contrary to what her grandpa's words sounded like, she DOES need some advice for it seems like she's got a general problem with memorizing words O_O But we'll manage. I'm just gonna try and use the vocabulary learning system I used myself, that should probably do the trick.
Today, we mainly chewed on her homework and geez, those English practising books today are weird. A lot of fancy stuff, riddles etc. that doesn't do anything in my opinion -_- Well, another thing we have to cope with, I guess. I can always make up additional excersises and questions myself, so there :P
Another thing I noticed is that she's not exactly confident in her knowledge. A couple of times, she seemed a little scared to answer a question, and when she did and it was indeed correct, I was like " So there, you CAN DO it AFTER ALL". But that might very well change once she gets to know me better because then, she'll understand that I DON'T get angry if she makes a mistake. I just DON't. I mean, why should I? I'm there to HELP her for fuck's sake, and not to punish her for anything. Usually, it's not the pupil's fault if he/she does bad, but the teacher's. It's always been like that, with ALL of my private pupls.
When we had finished, I asked Charlene whether our lesson was very bad for her. And she said "I though it'd be a lot worse". I liked that ^_^ Her mum seemed quite happy/confident as well and she even offered to pay me on a monthly basis O_O
Yeah. That was that.
I know it's weird, but it was fun. And earning 36€ a month doing something you like is a nice thing as well =)
