My fifteen minutes...

We headed out shortly after midnight (in Germany, the bookstores opened at 1 AM [= midnight in Britain]). It took us a while to find a parking space that didn't look fishy somehow.
When we arrived at the bookstore at about quarter to one, there were about fifty people waiting already. However, no one was in a costume. Except for me.
Just when I was starting to wonder whether the costume idea had really been a good one, I was attacked by two guys with notebooks. OMG, the press~!!
Before I knew what was happening, I was giving them an interview O_o
They asked who I am, who I was dressed as (random Slytherin) what's so cool about Harry Potter, and so on. I was talking without losing my stream of argumentation once and had an answer to even their most stupid questions. It was fun.
Later, [livejournal.com profile] yamasagi told me that he thought I'd said tons of smart and important things that could've been taken directly from JKR's homepage *lol*
Anyway.
One of them seemed like he had no idea about HP at all and I suspect he'd been sent there very much against his will. I mean, he had never even heard of a person called Snape. However, he seemed to be convinced that his jokes were tremendously funny. Which they weren't. God, no. Whatever.
The other guy (the older one) was super nice and - unlike his colleague - actually seemed to have read the books. Too bad he apparently didn't know how to wash *pinches nose in retrospect*
Well, we joked and talked some more and then they shuffled off to talk to other people in the crowd.
By now, 1 AM was drawing near. There were probably two hundred people waiting now. Surprisingly, about two thirds of them were guys. Things had started moving inside the store, people were walking around, putting up stuff, and we could, for the first time, see the enormous stack of copies of book 7. There were also two people that didn't look like bookshop clerks at all. But we'd soon find out what their purpose was.
At one o'clock, one of the doors was opened (turns out, it was the one we didn't stand in front of. D'oh.). We pulled a Brit and formed a queue in front of it.
By now, three more people in costumes had arrived. They were at the back of the queue and when they saw me, they beamed at me. Awww ^^
People started walking into the store in a surprisingly orderly fashion, walked towards the counter, claimed their book(s), paid, and exited through the other door.
The two creepy guys turned out to be security guards. However, they looked a bit lost since they obviously weren't really needed. We all behaved perfectly peacefully.
BTW, there was no TV around, but the bookshop had been illuminated by camera flashes from the moment the doors had opened.
When it was nearly my turn to grab my book, I found out that those who hadn't pre-ordered a copy had tog et theirs from the stack that was being guarded by the security guy. The others got theirs directly at the counter. Well, I did as I was being told and paid the nice bookstore woman who seemed rather happy and, let's face it, a bit excited, too.
As I was about to leave, one of the photographers asked me to pose for them with the book in my hand. Since I had already packed mine, the bookshop lady handed me a spare one to show to the cameras.
I hate celebrities and all that stardom crap, but gosh, that moment was pure awesome. Needless to say, when I joined [livejournal.com profile] yamasagi (who had been waiting at the exit), I was nearly screaming with excitement and delight.
Well, I guess those were my fifteen minutes of fame, eh? XD
We drove back home, I read a few pages before passing out. Hell, but was I tired ^_~
Looking back, I gotta say that attending the nightly sale - and especially doing it in a costume - was one of the best things I ever did.
Of course, I'll try to get the newspaper articles. Once I manage to get my dirty lil' hands on 'em, I'll scan - and translate - them fer ya. Promise ^_^

Also... comstume!!

Right now, I'm about 25% into book 7. I'm not planning on finishing it tomorrow, but we'll see where I get. Not telling anything right now, of course. But be prepared for a rather emotional review in a few days ;)
