I'm not dead, just readjusting. It's the first week of class and both the number as well as the running time of lectures are still severely reduced.

Orientation week (last week) was pretty fun, especially the day all the IT first-years met and some of our seniors showed us around the campus a bit. One of them is a Doctor Who fan. I know that because he visited my blog and afterwards, he quoted a line from "Blink" on our faculty forum =)

My timetable is still not quite done because we still have to get sorted into the exercise groups. However, it seems I'll have class from 8 AM to 6 PM on Mondays (O_O), on the other hand, I might very likely get Friday off. Awesome!

Also, I've been living in the cafeteria since Friday. I'm kinda obsessed with decent food at such a good price. Unfortunately, I never got to got there at my old uni becasue nobody wanted me to spend money when mum's cooking at home. Including me. Ah well.

The first look into some of the things we'll be doing in the various classes was interesting, yet slightly intimidating. Well, I've still got help at the ready, in case I need it. However, the real things (programming [Java] and mathematics) are still to come. Tomorrow *gulps*

I also met some nice people. There's this very sweet Christian girl in economy who kept comparing me to her best friend. Awww. We'll try to have lunch together once a week even though we study different subjects. Also, there's that guy in my faculty (long, black hair, leather jacket, buttons, kinda Metal-looing in general, fellow cat-owner) who's super nice. We've been sitting next to each other in class and riding on the bus home all week. Cool =)

So, I guess things are fine over here.

Memo to self: If you tell [ profile] yamasagi to wrap the plastic wrap tightly around your head, he'll do exactly that. Wrap it hella tight. I feel like Elizabeth Weir in SG-A episode 4x01 ;)
Eek, five and a half hours to go O_o

But I wanna look decent for the new students welcoming ceremony tomorrow at the ungoldy hour of 11 AM *lol*
Still... So excited =)

Also, I'm back on WinXP and happily so. Also, back with Semagic which makes postign across four journaling services sooo much more convenient!

- So apparently, the 'Ray DVD will be released next spring. Well, better very late than never.

- Another try at the uni office tomorrow morning. [ profile] yamasagi is driving me there. And although I have no need to worry, I still do. But that's just me. I just want this over with, hand in my documents and get my ID. Pretty please? *puppy eyes*

- My PC is slow, unstable and crash-prone. Vista has to go and I'm not trying it again before the first Service Pack gets released some time next year. [ profile] yamasagi has one legal copy of Windows XP left. It's in German, which pains me to no end, but I guess I'll have to go with it because I really need a reliable computer when my classes start (the 15th).

- Also, because of said classes, there will be no NaNoWriMo for me this year. Maybe next, but I absolutely need to settle in and do well, so of course, that's absolute priority. However, Biffno next March? Count me in.

- Finally, a funny quote from tonight:
[ profile] yamasagi (swearing): "Shit fucking"
[ profile] jessybxx: "It's the other way around"
[ profile] yamasagi: "Fuck shitting"
[ profile] jessybxx: O_o

So, I didn't get enrolled. Instead, I got a stupid fuckin' token that instead of a date only says a number. I had to look up the date somewhere else.
And it's the 4th of October. Much later than I'd like, in the middle of a long weekend, and, what's more, I'm pretty sure there's not way I'll get my ID (= semester bus ticket) before the introductory meetings start. Which means more Euros will be wasted for goddamn nothing.
I mean, at least I can look up all the dates and times for those newbie meetings so that, even having to pay far too much for bus tickets, at least I'll know where to go and when. Actually, if I read the list of classes correctly, I can already write most of my timetable before having met one single person in the faculty. Which is good. Also, most of the classes seem to be in the afternoon. OMG, late uni when I'm totally used to 8 to 12/14 in the morning O_o
But still.

What happened, then?
Why, the token machine magically existed after all, quite contrary to what the office lady last week told me (!) and certainly in a different place compared to the instructions on the web page.
Er... ass?

And of course, upon calling mum to keep her posted on things, all she can do is turn the whole thing around to try and make it my fault.
"You could have asked one of the students waiting in line".
... huh?
Those confused, baggy-pants-wearing kids, some of whom had their mummies with them, and who, judging from their looks, were certainly much more helpless than I was?
Why, does my dear mother think, I asked someone who works there instead of them? Uh... maybe because they organize the whole bumfuck?
I mean, when you're shopping, you don't ask other customers for help instead of the clerks, right? But apparently, in hardcore bureaucracy, it's not reason that gets you through. What else it is that will lead to the ultimate success, I can't say. I really can't say.

What I can say is how happy I am that this is the first and last time I'll have to do this. If you are already a student, you can register - and, most importantly, pay - for the next semester online. Woohoo. Why they don't do that for the newcomers, I have no idea. It's probably too easy. Maybe you need to pass this test of nerves before you're worthy to study at that place.

However, names of classes look utterly awesome. Can't wait =)

So today, I was fucked over by a university, even though I'm not their student yet.
That's something, eh?
Basically, enrollment's supposed to begin next week, and you're supposed to get an appointment beforehand. According tot he website, you can obtain these from a token machine in the office foyer. But when I got there today, they told me there is no such machine. No idea why.
They said to just join the queue. However, that was a moot point because I didn't have my documents. And why should I have when the homepage states very clearly that enrollment starts on the 24th.
So I crossed town, throwing away 4,20€ and one and a half hours for nothing.
Well, at least the place is easy to find.
Right now, the plan is to show up there again next Monday or Tuesday, with all of my documents. And if they start talking about tokens, there's gonna be casualties >:O

Anyway. No point in being pissed for something wonderful arrived yesterday - stay tuned for the report =)
