So, I've been spending the last... uh... three hours trying to piece together a somewhat reasonable schedule for next semester (starting in early October).
After nearly pulling my hair out more than once, I've come to the following conclusions:
- IMHO, they just close the place on Mondays and Fridays, there's next to nothing happening on these days anyway. So much for trying to destroy the cliché of anyone connected to a university being goddamn lazy.
- If you're not a first-year student and one of your subjects doesn't happen to be the most common one in the world (Sorry for wanting to do Japanese studies, I'm such a bad person >:|), you'll end up with classes clashing and having to redo your time table over and over and over. The fact that 95% of all courses are crammed into the three days in the middle of the week doesn't help much.
- You can move, check and re-check all you want, in the end, you'll end up with the most unbalanced schedule in the history of academics. That usually means having to be at uni all day on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and having little or no classes on Monday and Friday.
- If you want to know what to do for your obligatory electives, don't try to do something that makes sense. Just select according to what fits into your timetable and doesn't look too horrible or outlandish. The way things look now, I'll end up doing nothing BUT those in my fifth semester just to get those credits coming in. Yeargh.

Sheesh, what a bother. Still, I'm hopeful I'll get used to coming home at 8 PM, it's not like I haven't survived that for a full semester before.
Wish me luck for getting into all the classes I want (especially the comics and media narratology ones, I'd KILL to be able to attend them!), but I'm somewhat hopeful since I'll be getting up at 5 AM on Wednesday because that's when online registration opens. Yeah, fucking stupid, but what can one do ? >_<

Also, somewhat related: It seems that the new subway connection between Düsseldorf main station and the university is finished and was opened today. That means that we can get from Duisburg to Düsseldorf uni without having to change, but it'll quite possibly take twice the time. Wow, that was ONE useful building enterprise there. Not ;P

Crazy stuff up ahead, read at your own risk (Do I have th keep writing this in EVER ENTRY? XD) )

PS: On a semi-related note, I was shocked to see how many haters La Carmina has around the intarwebs. Sure, whenever anyone does anything that gets some attention, there's at least some people who'll start bitching the heck out of them. Sure, I'm bloody jealous of her job and the fact that she got to film with Andrew *cough* but I still wouldn't HATE her for it. She's doing good stuff, and if people criticize her for having plagiarized some of the stuff she's put on her blog, they should look at themselves first. I mean, I'm quite convinced that there are only a few people who have NEVER taken a picture or a video without asking the creator for permission. Also, if people think that the things La Carmina writes about Japanese culture are wrong, why don't they tell her and instead bitch behind her back? Oh, right, they're envious lowlifes without even a shred of character or dignity who probably can't even spell. I forgot :P
I was just re-reading old entries when I stumbled upon this, written on January 1st, 2008. It's about Kai dubbing Nigel Marven in "Prehistoric Park".
My favourite scene so far [...] was the one in episode 5 where Nigel visits the prehistoric woods and, in a hushed voice, calls them "magic forest". I'm not sure if I've ever heard Kai #2 using the "totally in awe" mode of speaking before, but needless to say, I died.

Well, more than two and a half years later I can say that I have heard him using that hushed way of speaking several times.
... mainly when saying goodbye to me on the phone... ^_^;;;
Just saying *beams*

Looking back at what happened until today, it's almost impossible to believe.
I mean, we met half a dozen times, I slept in his house, we explored Munich, did the live audio play together (or at least that's what I like to think), we watched movies for hours and he showed me his studio and other music stuff and cooked awesome meals for me, he got me my first translating job and I actually got paid for it just yesterday, the first week here when I didn't have internet yet he seemed to be worried and called me so often I was amazed he always plays along with me weird nerdy antics and after a while even started using netspeak himself, and so on.
Really, I know I' not one who gets lucky with stuff on a regular basis, but Kai is one of the few things that just happened to me and changed my life into something better, happier and much more worthwhile.

Thanks, baby.
You mean the world to me, y'know?

Today is the birthday of one of the people who are most precious to me.
I'm proud to be his friend, he's always there and believes in me when even I don't, and certainly have no idea what the heck I'd do without him.
Happy Birthday, Kai!!!

My mafioso )

PS: If you're as confused about the pic as I think you are, let me tell you it's got something to do with the game Mafia II. Kai and a few colleagues did the voice acting for this, but I'm not certain why they did those photo shoots for O_o Maybe I should just ask him XD

Rose Tyler
Take Which Doctor Who companion are you? (girls) today!
Created with Rum and Monkey's Personality Test Generator.
You're Rose Tyler!

You are spunky, determined, and as religiously devoted to your Doctor as you are to chips. (He's the only one who doesn't know how sweet you are on him, too.) You never stay put when you're told to stay put, but just when everyone expects you to get roasted by the monster of the week, you turn right around and figure out the mystery. You're sharp as a tack, but also sensitive, knowing when the Doctor needs someone to back him up or when he just needs a hand to hold. He seems to think he can get rid of you... you're quick to show him he's wrong!

I'm more or less packed, will leave tomorrow at about 9 AM. That's a bit to early but on the way, I want to stop by the chemist's to buy some more hand lotion. My hands have been horribly dry and the skin on my right index ginfer actually ripped and stated bleeding. Ouch -_-
Maybe I'll grab some brekkers as well since I totally have a bit of spare money ^^

Anyway. See you on Tuesday, folks :D

You Are the Rabbit

Like a rabbit, you are quick on your feet and fast to act. You don't procrastinate or dilly-dally.

You are ambitious, and likely very lucky when it comes to money. You know how to work hard when the time is right.

You are conservative in your decisions and actions. You want to protect and defend what's yours.

You are a kind and polite person. You make sure not to step on any toes, and if someone is mad, you get out of his or her way.

About thrtee quarsters of this are blatantly wrong.
Also, I'm a rooster, like Kai, not a rabbit :P

Your Name is Yellow

Your name tells people that you are welcoming and cheerful. You are open to all the love in the world.

You are a warm person who can't help but make others feel comforted. You are truly radiant.

People see you as someone who has figured out the secrets to life. While that's not true, you do try to remain positive in the face of adversity.

You are the sunshine in other people's lives. You make more of a difference than you realize.

Woah, woah, now. Don't overdo it O_O
So... I did translations of the German bits in the short video interview snippets found here.
Basically, the Rays talk about some songs from the upcoming album, and since Daniel and Henjo apparently were too lazy to speak English, I had some work to do on a lazy Saturday evening ;)
Anywho... enjoy ^_^

#1 "Rise"

Daniel: Melodic double-bass speed hymn. Recording it was really exhausting. I was sweating like a pig in the studio because, apart from the small middle part, there's lots of double-bass parts. Nice song, will work very well when played live.
Henjo: I enjoy Daniel's songs a lot, I like them very much. Daniel's got this thing I like to call an Eighties faible, which means that his stuff always sounds a bit Eighties-like. But I don't just mean Eighties Metal or Had Rock but Eighties music in general, especially when it comes to the melodies.

#2 "Deadlands"

Daniel: Good mit-tempo song, groovy like fuck. With this one, we tried out a lot of things. We just weren't sure what would work best for that song, we made a lot of parts.
Daniel: In the end, the song is carried by the guitar riff, it's a very heavy riff.
Henjo: Deadlands is a classic one. The chorus reminds me a bit of Tobi. However, he asked him and he's got nothing to do with it. So, no similarities, but it could be on an Avantasia album as well.

(If you ask me, Kai and Tobi probably wrote the song together... in bed. So there, mystery solved :P)
(Love Kai's game show vision. I hope he knows he's probably giving people ideas for fics ^_~)

#3 "No need to cry"

Henjo: He certainly needed that song to come to terms with the whole thing. Very nice ballad.
Daniel: The studio session with him was very good. He was very concentrated during the whole thing. That was one of the most concentrated sessions we had because he was 100% focused on the song. It was very important to him.
Daniel: The song is very powerful, full of feeling. I mean, of course, this sad stuff is not everyone's cup of tea. I like songs which are extreme, either extremely melancholic, extremely sad or extremely aggressive. I like extremes because they're so full of emotions.

Which Torchwood character are you?
Toshiko Sato You're a genius with technology, but people get the best of you. Your love life is a shambles, but that doesn't stop you from being an incurable romantic. Too bad you keep falling for the unattainable ones. You might not realize your worth, but you're loved by those who really count. Your one true failing is hesitation to go for what you really desire in life before your chance has passed you by.

This one is... almost too acurate O_o

Name: Jessy B.
Date: 12/3/2009
Colorgenics Number: 75012364

You are so adamant at this time, you are not willing to concede to anything. You are dictatorial with your own ideas and the way you are feeling and there is little that anyone can do to make you change your mind, or to be able to persuade you to make concessions or to accept any compromise.

Recently you have been experiencing considerable mental anguish and turmoil. You are bored and discontent. Nothing seems to be going right for you. Even your relationships aren't working out and you don't quite know which way to turn.

You are not an argumentative sort of person and 'rather than fight - you'd switch' (an old cigarette ad cliche). But when you try to assert yourself - as sometimes you may try to do - you meet with so much resistance and effrontery that manifests itself so obviously that you become hurt, indignant and resentful. So in order to have peace and quiet you tend to become inhibited. You keep it all to yourself but deep down, you 'feel' and 'hurt' a lot.

You pretend that you are a carefree individual and that nothing really bothers you - that you are so self-sufficient that whatever problems beset you they simply flow off you as water flows off a ducks back. You are experiencing considerable stress, trying to conceal yourself from the rest of the world. In actual fact - deep down, you are not at all happy. You feel lonely and you need someone with whom you can 'Let your hair down' and share your hopes, dreams and high standards. You are imposing unnecessary self restraint on yourself. You would like to demonstrate the unique quality of your character to all and sundry.

At this time you don't particularly like yourself. Everything that you have tried to do seems to have gone wrong. This makes you feel that there is no point in trying to start again. Apart from being stressed and tense, you are angry with yourself and have unadmitted self-contempt. Your refusal to admit that you and you alone is the basic cause of your problems leads to you adopting a headstrong and defiant attitude. If you take stock of yourself, smile a little and let go, everything will turn out OK. Have you not heard of the cliche 'smile and the world smiles with you - cry and you cry alone!'?

You Are Shrewd and Talented

When You Are Comfortable:

You are ambitious, and hard-working. Adversity allows you to shine. You resourceful and able to make due.

People see you as honest to the point of bluntness. But they always know that you'll be fair. You have the good intentions.

When You Are At Your Best:

You are a fairly intense person. You are outspoken and feel like it's important to stand up for what you believe in.

People see you as brilliant and eloquent. You have a way with words, and you are good at getting ideas across.

When You Are in a Social Setting:

You are a shy, quiet person. Underneath your shell, you are compassionate and giving.

People find you to be friendly and welcoming. Your home is a place of comfort to them.

Hm. Actually, I agree to most of it. Weird XD

You Are the "T" Block

You are very flexible and adaptable. You're able to fill almost any role or do almost any job.

You are peaceful and calm. In fact, you're so tranquil that people often forget you're around.

You prefer to leave the drama to other people. That being said, you sometimes end up cleaning up someone else's mess.

You don't mind doing the dirty work every so often. You're a true team player, and you're always happy to contribute.
