Today, I was watching some four-part documentary about young people during the Third Reich. Around timestamp 15 minutes... I saw this:

ZOMG WTF BBQ @.@
I had to brighten these because the lighting during that scene was utter crap. Also cut out the TV station's logo which was on the left.
But, honestly, like I could mistake that nose for anyone else's. Yes, what you're looking at right now is Kai Taschner, aged 25. In other words, Baby Kai ^^
What a cutie pie, despite the Nazi uniform. Still, I rpefer today's Kai, mainly because I only really know this version ;) Also, it's not like he's not painfully adorable any more *swoons*

Anyway, the facts.
In 1882, a four-part TV movie called "Blut und Ehre" was shot, depicting a German boy's involvement in the Hitler Youth. Apparently, they took this dramatization, shortened and re-edited it, added documentary bits, called it "Jugend unter Hitler" and released it to be shown in schools. And for some reason, me, being the WWII documentary junkie that I am, got my hands onto it.

Also, a rather crazy detail: Most of the actors were re-dubbed. Including Kai. What the...?! Gotta ask him why the hell that was done because it somwhat boggles the mind O_o

Geez, why do I keep running into Kai when I least expect it? You'd almost think I was doing this on purpose XD
Does it even make sense to post a non-prank-y entry on April 1st? :P

Kai had a terribly long, hard day yesterday and, quite predictably, didn't show up today at all. But that's okay <3

BTW, he told me they'll be recording two performances of "his" play (They ahve to do two because there are two different leads alternating with playing the Pope). And guess who'll very likely be receiving copies as well? *beams until her jaw hurts*

I'm also in the process of grabbing uncut DVDs of all three "Sream" movies. Yay! I haven't watched any of them in ages, even though it's probably Kai's msot famous vocie acting role to date...
However, I'll need double-layer DVD+Rs to be able to burn them since they're uncompressed, which means about 7/8 GB per disc O_o

Right now, Kai should be on stage again <3 The play was hilarious, but more about that once I manage to write up some kind of report.

For now, have two quizzy thigns, both stolen from [livejournal.com profile] rdyfrde!

Today was a wonderful day.
I haven't been this happy in... forever.

First, I spent hours (literally) just browsing appartment offers, without even seriously considering anything yet. I just wanted to see whether the situation in Essen is similar to the one in Duisburg, meaning tons of small flats at almost laughtable prices. And, wuldn't you know it, it's almost better than here! I guess chances for me to actually find something are good. No idea whether anyone will even give me a rent contract to sign since I can't get a job before I moved there (it's too far to commute without the "unlimited free rides ticket" from uni) and some of the landlords do want proof of a regular income before even considering you. Damn, that's gonna be complicated. Still, I know what to look for and it seems I think of stuff to do/find out about before [livejournal.com profile] yamasagi. Actually, I asked him not to help me with this at all because, y'know, it's purely my business and I want to get this done by myself.

I downloaded a comp of this for Kai and sent it to him today. Gotta say, he was really happy about that little surprise. Ah, I love giving rpesents to the people I love <3
BTW, at the enws of me moving out, he sounded almost as excited as me. Bless him ^^

We watched Wall-E tonight. Oh my god, if this isn't the cutest thing in the history of movies, I dunno what is. And the short film "Presto" make me laugh so hard I nearly chocked ^_^;;;

Finally:

I just read that the upcoming Harry Potter movie (HBP) has been postponed to July 2009.
Er... damn?
But somehow, I think [livejournal.com profile] yamasagi will be much more pissed about this than I am. He's never as much as touched any of the books, but he loves the films.
Still... I hate it when they launch in the middle of the summer - Harry Potter movies belong into the Christmas season, for crap's sake >:|

Whee, we got our first "own" Blu-Ray movie today. And of course, we've watched ti already.
It was 300.
Holy shit, that thing completely redefines the word "badass". The visuals were stunning, the story was utter, meaningless nonsense. Which was to be expected.
But it was still worth it, if only for the effects and spectacularly choreographed fighting scenes.

On the Who side... There's only three episodes left until... damn, I don't even wanna think of it. I'm terrified of 1x13. Utterly terrified.
Well. Maybe a pause (until Monday) is a good thing. Though I will keep staring at Chris pics whenever I get the chance. That man is just too gorgeous to be real.
Just burned all the episodes, including a documentary from 2003 and the Xmas special.
Dammit, I need to get someone into that thing. Too bad there's only one person left. But I know my bro will like it, I just know it. He's the type for trashy-looking, British SciFi. I mean, he loves the Hitchhiker! And he will watch Who, even if I'll have to tie him down >:)

*is totally not downloading anything else that Chris has starred in*
Holy damn, help me... not O_o

We'll be out of town at my parents' tomorrow. C ya on Sunday, then ^^

Hi thar, 'tis me, writing from Kan-chan. I decided to power him up again after what sems like half an eternity. Thought I'd check and update whatever needs to be updated, to get him somewhat prepared for next week ^^

So, what's up around here? Not too much, I'm afraid.
[livejournal.com profile] yamasagi started his two weeks of holiday so we're mainly doing fun things together, like shopping, watching movies and playing games. I'm far into the three-digit hours on Pokémon FireRed because I'm trying to get all of my critters past level 50 before going any further ("further" meaning entering - and beating - the Pokémon mansion). Also, Diamond and Pearl seem to be breaking all sales records in Germany which is nice ^^
Speakinhg of games, we got "The Darkness". We ordererd the Austrian version, which only differs from the German one in the fact that it's not been censored into unplayability >:| Of course, the game rocks, it's creepy and violent and just all around awesome ^^ The scariest thing about it, at least considering the technicalities, is the fact that in the subway station, there's a TV on which you can actually flick the channels. But that's not all, since it's not just some random clips playing on it. You can actually watch several full movies and series on there. I swear I'm not kidding! I had to look it up or I wouldn't have believed it myself, but it's true. Well, that's Blu-Ray fer ya ;)
Speaking of Blu-Ray, we watched our first Blu-Ray movie today - "xXx" (the first one). I had missed all the chances to see it which was probably good, because this way, it was totally new to me-. Good action film, and I can't help it - I like Vin Diesel. Yeah, feel free to start making jokes now, I prolly deserve it ^_~
Anyway, the picture was brilliant, and we couldn't see any of the horizontal slowdowns we heard are to be expected with BDs. So either our eyes are too bad or those people are stupid. Dunno.
Apart from all that, we went to IKEA and bought a shoe rack. It's a LOGGA and cost 10 Euros which was damn cheap. Gotta say that [livejournal.com profile] yamasagi didn't really like IKEA before, but I think the bargain we made might have loosened his opinion just a little bit. I, on the other ahdn,m love them to bits, and always have =)

Meh. That thing about my mum is bugging me to no end. It's putting a dent in everything I do, see, read or hear. Which is not good. However, I'm not sure whether the actual solution might not be far worse than the problem itself...
So I knocked myself out with Tim Burton movies yesterday. First, I re-watched "Corpse Bride", and then I saw its predecessor (not really, but y'know) for the first time in about ten years.

I gotta say I remembered quite a lot from back when I watched the movie in German.
But now I'm starting to despise the dub, especially because Sally was apparenty voiced by Nina Hagen. Holy... I mean... What were they thinking? Casting a loud, stupid, crazy (in the bad way), deluded and obnoxious hag like her (Can you tell how I don't really like her? XDD) to play such a sweet character? And I'm sure they've redone the choir bits with like, four people. Because it's cheaper. Ugh. Ths country's entertainment industry is rotten to the core, with only a few notable exceptions.

Anyway. Nightmare.
It combines two of my favourite things - Gothic/horror stuff and Christmas.
Needless to say, I'd love it even if it wasn't such a wonderful, artsy movie that leaves a huge impact as only very few other film can ^_~

But my favourite aspect of the thing remains...
Danny Elfman. What a singer... what a voice *swoons*
He was great as Bonejangles in "Corpse Bride" and he's an awesome composer. But doing all that marvelous singing for Jack just killed me. Ded.
<3 <3 <3

[livejournal.com profile] yamasagi hasn't seen it yet. Might force him to when it's the season. Though, by then, I'm sure I'll know it word by word ;) Also, I'm worried about the musical aspects. There were only four songs in "Corpse Bride", but here, most dialoge is sung. And I have a certain suspicion that he won't like that all that much O_o

I want a new purse. The old one is boring and butt-ugly. Most purses are leather (bleh), plastic (no way) or some fabric. However, I'd prefer soemthing unusual. What about this? Yep, it's plush ^_^

Awesome: A Bittorrent client that can do a forced hash-check. >µTorrent = total love <3

Not so awesome: Some guy I really respect writing a review of the Simpsons movie and getting one third of the (American) voice actors' names wrong. Jeez...

Totally un-awesome: German censors destroying "The Darkness". We'll be getting the Austrian version now, which apparently remained as it is. Phew.

BTW, I found the source of my anti-aliasing problem. It seems that Windows Vista denies the function to applications other than the Windows Media Player. Holy... O_o

Finally... Who wants a PAL PS2 with controller, some extras (remote, base) and a few games (still need to decide which)? It's three and a half years old, hardly used and in brillliant condition! It's name is Mabo-chan.
Nobody? Yeah, well, thought as much ;)
We'll probably be putting my old machine onto eBay since we obviously have no need for three of 'em (counting the PS3).

( Jul. 23rd, 2007 01:50 pm)
We watched "Corpse Bride" last night. In HDTV. And (to my surprise, [livejournal.com profile] yamasagi insisted on that) in English. Which turned out to be the most excellent decision since a lot of the characters rely on the British pronounciation to draw their charm from - or, in many cases, the complete lack thereof. Which is just as amusing.
Anyway. I loved that movie so much it's still hurting. What a crazy, macabre, beautiful, romantic, funny and totally amazing piece of art O____O
The story and the characters were wonderful, the music fit the situations and didn't appear like being too much (this ain't Disney, mind you XD).
Johnny Depp was just fabulous. I love his fake British accent to death <3
Another awesome aspect was how our usual idea about the world of the living and the realm of death was completely turned upside-down. The singing and dancing - but pretty dead - wedding procession "downstairs" celebrating their heads of (literally, of course *lol*) with music and colours that nearly made you blind... and on the opposite the sad, grim, black-and-white, completely silent dining table on the surface - brilliant! ^_^
I think [livejournal.com profile] yamasagi still doesn't believe the movies isn't 100% CGI - which it's not. Just because we have that technology doesn't mean that anything else - like, stop-motion animation with puppets, as done in this case - becomes obsolete at once and isn't used anymore. Look at Wallace & Gromit (to which Corpse Bride lost at the 2005 Oscars, BTW). I wouldn't like it if they switched to all-CGI just like that. And it seems filmmakers realize that and act accordingly. Hell, even the Simpsons movie has been hand-drawn!
Have I mentioned Johnny Depp yet? *lol*
And I still need to meet someone who didn't cry during the ending ;)

... gosh, I really need to find "Nightmare before Christmas". I haven't seen it in English yet... and no, I don't care about it being the wrong season ^_~

Me likey. A lot.
But then, I'm not very critical about the movies sicne I see them rather separated from the book. It's just an interpretation.
Of course, they cut a ton of things but this time, they made it more easy to understand than some of the previous movies. At least that's what [livejournal.com profile] yamasagi told me.
One thing I love about all the movies is how they back up things from the book with visuals that weren't possible in written form. Filch nailing all the decrees to that wall (and all of them crashing down during the Weasley havoc) was just awesome =)
Luna was cute ^^
When Tonks appeared, [livejournal.com profile] yamasagi and me both went "Guhhhh". OMG she's hot :D~~~~

Also, since we saw it in German... dub rambling!!
I think the dub is pretty decent, actually. From what I could take in, there weren't any severe translation fuckups (apart maybe from Ron calling "Alter". I mean, jeez, that'd sorta equal him calling him "Homey". And I thought Dudley was the only one who'd gone HipHop XDDD). Well, this wasn't The Simpsons, right? *cough COUGH*
[livejournal.com profile] yamasagi once told me, after watching one of the movies in English, that he really liked the German Snape. And I can see why. I mean, the voices sure are pretty different. But someone (I think you can guess who that was ^^) once said in an interview that it's important to transfer the character of the voice to the foreign version, not so much the sound. Well, he's right. And in case of the HP movies, the German voice actors mostly do that pretty well, IMHO.

There were some very interesting trailers beforehand. "Stardust" and "The Golden Compass" both look rather interesting, though the first a bit more so than the second.
What's it with the fantasy overkill in the second half of the year?
Anywho.
I also saw the trailer for the Simpsons movie in German for the first time. I nearly know the English one by heart so I suppose I'm more or elss qualified to judge the translation. And I gotta say, it was very, very good.
Of course, I'm not saying it's a good thing the former translator/director died, but I'm still happy that someone else is doing the dubbing for something as important as the movie. I know, this is gonna sound horrible no matter how I put it, so I'll just go and hate myself for a moment, kthxbai.
Finally, I was delighted to discover that "Ratatouille" actually has a story. The other trailers somehow made it look like a cartoonish joke-centered sort of thing, so this kinda reinstated my faith in Pixar and my interest in the movie itself.

OMG, DH release tonight. Excitedexcitedexcited *squees*
That being said, I doubt there'll be a commotion at the bookstore tonight. It's only the English version after all ^_~

... my allergy meds decided to take a few days off.
It' almost funny how sometimes, they just don't seem to give a crap about helping me. Hey, I paid money fer ya, suckers >:|
Anywho.
Needless to say, I didn't feel exceptionally well.
We actually went to bed earlier because all I wanted was to lie down and fall into a coma.

When it wasn't any better the enxt morning, I crawled into the enxt pharmacy and obtained a spray.
For now, it's working surprisingly well. And it'd better stay that way, or else... >:|

Dang, I'm on a truly grandma-esque number of meds right now O_o
My nose is still raw.

Heh. We'll be seeing OotP tonight. In German, unfortunately, because our cineman apparently can't be arsed to do even OENs creening in the original language. Meh. Well, German Harry's still better than no Harry at all. Also, I'm looking forward to another intersting discussion with [livejournal.com profile] yamasagi afterwards sicne he doesn't read the books and always has a bunch of (pretty interesting) questions. That, and the kebap we*ll be getting :D~~~

Also, I'm seriously thinking of following [livejournal.com profile] dienacht and leaving the 'net alone until I've obtained - and read - DH.
Now that we can be pretty sure the thing has leaked onto the inatwebs, you can't really click anywhere without the fear of getting exposed to something.
Actually, I just read half a sentence that doesn't sound like the usual rubbish and could very well be a real fact from the ending of book 7. I know it's my fault, but still. Dammit. Dammit to hell!!
God, I hope it's fake, not so much because of its content but because it might be an important aspect.

Blah.
... here.

Too bad they made the fatal mistake of not including any glasses *slaps Matt Goening*
Well, just imagine they're there...

Anyone else?
1. What is your all time favorite book?
"The Picture of Dorian Gray" by Oscar Wilde.

2. What is your all time favorite movie?
V for Vendetta.

3. What are you reading right now?
Just ordered three of Stephen Fry's books. Unfortunately, the one I wanted to read first wasn't on stock. So I'll either wait for it or have a go at "The Hippopotamus".

4. What is your favorite show on tv?
That's a tie between The Daily Show, The Colbert Report and Qi. Isn't it weird how none of them is actually aired on German TV? Haha XD

5. What is the last movie you saw in the theater?
Mr. Bean's Holiday. Soooo funny and cute <3

While I'm on the topic, have a movie REC: Lady in the Water. Watch it, it's utterly stunning.
Last night, we watched "Neko no Onageshi". Who the heck had the great idea of calling it "Das Königreich der Katzen" in German? It's "The Cat returns", not "The Kingdom of Cats". What's wrong with "Die Rückkehr der Katze"? Huh? Huh???
*pants*
Anyway *cough*
What a cute, original and beautiful movie. But hey, it's Studio Ghibli, so I didn't expect anything less! The DVD menu was purring. No kidding!

And today, I found out that my favourite German voice actor is playing a major role in the movie.
We watched the subbed version because I didn't know. And how could I, being all but used to him getting big appearances like that?
Unfortunately, [livejournal.com profile] yamasagi has already put the DVD back in the mail.
Awww, noooooooo ;_____;

I mean, we'll be getting "Tokyo Godfathers" soon, and he's got an even bigger role in that one. He plays Hana, one of the three main characters. He's even got two (!) singing parts and dammit, I so wanna hear that <3
But still, what a stupid coincidence =_=

Which reminds me, I never really talked about him, did I? Holy hell, that's more than overdue!
I mean, I actually have two crushes who share the same first name. If that isn't cool, I dunno what is XD [Hint, hint: Look at my icon ^^]

Ah, dammit. Still more than four weeks to go. Wanna. See. Now.

So, I told you I got an answer from Mobilcom, right?
They said they're sending me a subscription renewal offer containing phones from their current collection. Via snail mail, of course.
Which basically means that I won't get my new phone in May, but instead... next week ^___^
(And it proves that asking still helps a lot.)

I think they sent the offer on either Wednesday or Thursday so I've been waiting for it ever since.
When there still wasn't anything in the mailbox today, I was starting to get both confused and angry about it. Then, [livejournal.com profile] yamasagi suggested they might have sent the bloody thing to my old address. I told him I had already changed my address on their site. But he said that doesn't matter since they have different departments. Well, I called mum asking her whether there was a letter for me. She checked and guess what? It was there. WTF? Idiots =_=
I asked mum to scan the letter and send it via mail. Now I'm waiting for her to do that which might take a few hours since right now, they're sitting outside lazing around. And I doubt she'd wanna turn on her computer in the middle of a hot and sunny afternoon.
At least the letter DID arrive and I'll get it some time today. And then, I'll send it back top them by fax.

Dear God of Metal, please let the offer feature a N73, pretty pretty please *hopes* Actually, I explicitly told them that I'm interested in that model so I suppose it will.
Ah, I hate waiting *waits*

PS: Jiro has the puffiest cheeks in the world. He beats every toddler hands down ^_^;;;

PPS: We got "Snakes on a Plane". I hope we're gonna watch it tomorrow. Keep your fingers crossed for [livejournal.com profile] yamasagi not to faint during the movie since he has the most rabid snake phobia I've ever encountered O_O;;;

PPPS: The new Kotipelto album is already out in Finland so there was a torrent today. And... holy shit, it's unbelievable. Track #1 killed me ded within three seconds, which is a rarity even for me. Read: Check it out, pronto!!

Bean was absolutely adorkable <3
And it sure was a bit of a contrast to the movie we watched last night. *cough*Saw*cough*
But I loved it.
Of course, [livejournal.com profile] yamasagi got the solution at a very early stage of the movie. Well, he got the culprit wrong but the reason was correct.
Ah, it's always the same. That guy has just watched too many movies so there's hardly anything left to really surprise him. Geez...
Too bad they had to cut some of the violent scenes to get the goddamn age 16 rating. And you can't even rent the age 18 DVD. Because you can't rent age 18 DVDs at all.
Holy damn. This country has a problem with violence. Hello?! We're like, adults? No?
